My new Clyde

My new bicycle is a classic cruiser from Trek Bikes, the Clyde. Trek has treated me well for years and I can't see any reason to change. But, I will admit I was tempted for a moment by Raleigh's PUB, but only for a moment.
I've loved bicycles for many years. I remember my first Schwinn Stingray in the early 70's with much fondness. I fell into all the trendy pop-culture choices, BMX, 10 Speeds, Mountain Bikes, Comfort models were all ridden in turn. But now, in my early 40's I find myself happiest on Cruisers. They are the most comfortable by far, and though I'm not going to win any races I don't really care anymore....All I want is a comfortable ride.
This bike is a cruiser type with more than the typical utility and style. Practicalities are plenty with the Clyde: The frame is aluminum, for low weight and rust-free durability. The platform-style pedals are big and square, allowing you to pedal in almost any footwear, including boots. Big, squishy 26x2.0 tires provide a forgiving, if sluggish, ride. But the bike also stands-out from the crowd: The frame has an extra truss tube, a style popular 75 years ago--it's about fashion, not frame integrity. The whole package results in a bike that's light and speedy enough to run errands or do short commutes on, but relaxed enough to cruise beachfront boardwalks.
